The Pelikan M1000 is a large, solid pen. I find it comfortable to use (I write with it unposted) and it has a good balance. I chose a fine nib, which writes well with a smooth flow. The nib is reasonably wet, but less so than a Visconti Dreamtouch. The finish on the pen is excellent – I chose the traditional Pelikan green – and it looks great, particularly the nib with its yellow gold highlights.
Overall, I am very happy with the M1000 and Appelboom’s service. If you like a large pen, the M1000 is worthy of consideration
This Pelikan M1000 is by far my favorite fountainpen. I bought the black/green model with a extra fine nib at Appelboom. The model and colours are just top of the bill and the nib is extraordinary. Even the EF nib is quite wet and smooth; it performs great and is similar to a fine or even medium nib of other brands. Highly recommended!
I bought the M1000 (and a few other accessories) from Appelboom and based on my experience, I would not hesitate to recommend Appelboom to anyone. I live in the US and buying expensive items online from Europe can sometimes be a bit unsettling. One worries about potential damage to the product during shipping, hassle with returns, integrity of the merchant, etc. As it turns out, all my worries were laid to rest! Before I placed my order, Joost Appelboom, the owner, contacted me and personally addressed all my concerns. He carefully packaged my order, and amazingly everything (pen, bottles of ink, etc.) arrived intact within a few days. Mr. Appelboom even included a few extras and a handwritten note :) Now, that is a level of service you will not easily find elsewhere! So, don’t bother looking around anymore and buy your pen from Appelboom. You will be pleased.
Everything about this pen is wonderful. It's beautiful just to hold and admire. It's feels substantial when you hold it in your hands, but not unwieldy, It is comfortable both posted and un-posted. It fills easily and holds a generous amount of ink.
More important than the look and feel, of course, is the writing experience. Consistent with what I read in reviews, the nib is very flexible and it lays down a generous amount of ink. The nib is a pleasure to write with, with enough flexibility to give a great range of lines, but not so flexible that it feels "spongy". I went with a "medium" nib, but I think the fine would have been more practical for daily writing.
The pen is elegant, dignified, and buttery smooth to write with. It's all that, and the price was extremely reasonable for the quality of the product.
