Nothing beats the King Pelikan. M1000 leads the way and matches the Mont Blanc 149, Sailor King of Pens and the Namiki Yukari Royale. The nib, aesthetics of the pen, the flow, the wetness of the EF nib, all are out of the world.
Having recently gotten an M800 (EF) from Appelboom with tune and smooth that was a totally delightful writer right out of the gate, this M1000 (EF), also tuned, is not nearly as smooth, has less line variation, and is just a letdown. I expected much better from a flagship pen.

This pen is everything it promises to be-it's big and with a big nib and imposing presence.
First of all-the nib. I bought a fine, and it's closer to what might be called a medium on a modern Japanese pen. Like most Pelikan nibs, it's wet and smooth. The nib does have a pleasant amount of springiness to maybe a medium. This is my first M1000. If I bought again, I might opt for an EF, although I'm happy with the F.
Buyers should take note-the binde(green stripes) are now opaque. It's not possible to see the ink level. Buy the black version if this is important. I was aware of this change before buying this pen but it still gives it a different look from other Pelikans I've had.
I don't know that I'd want to pay current US retail prices, especially with the binde change, but Appelboom offers significant savings over US prices. The service was of course excellent, and shipping time a week from to delivery in the US.
For years I have wanted this pen. Finally, I saw it at Appleboom at a price I had not seen it before, so I decided to pull the trigger.
This pen is one of those I consider a classic, it’s a pleasure to write with it. The broad nib is wet and perfect for my big handwriting. It has a beautiful engraved nib and aesthetically is a beauty to enjoy for many years to come.
I am very happy with my Pelikan Souveran M1000 EF fountain pen, green/black, it glides very smoothly and has some flex doing a bit of pressure on the downstrokes which makes them thicker. For me it has a perfect balance between weight, thickness and size. It will definitely be one of my favorites for daily use to enjoy writing.
I received the black/green pen with an extra fine nib quickly and well-tuned by Appelboom, so it wrote perfectly out of the box. A gigantic, beautiful, nib that, as expected, wrote as a conventional medium. After cleaning it, I filled it with Diamine Evergreen, to respect its stripes. Nicely balanced as a pen and therefore good for longer writing sessions, as well as for flourishes. Beautifully engineered, everything working perfectly including the very elegant and practical clip – which is true of every Pelikan and of very few other pens. Although the pen commands a high price, it is well worth it. A lovely pen straight away, and staying good later, with the long nib pushing your fingers back a little, whilst remaining comfy. Certainly ‘a’ favourite, so let’s see if it gets to the definite article. The closest competition is my M800, but the greater girth and more beautiful nib of the M1000 makes it a close race.
Pelikan M1000 has always been by dream pen and finally I pulled the trigger and bough this pen in July’23. It’s a nice big pen which is long and girthy. It’s also a stunning pen with green stripes and black cap. It has a beautiful large 18k gold two tonnes soft nib which makes it a smooth and wet writer. One must use very soft hands to write with it, else the fine nib writes like a broad nib. I personally love this pen and I must say that it’s worth it’s value. As usual thanks to Appelboom for a fast delivery and exceptional customer service.
This my second Pelikan M1000 and it is in Broad. The Pelikan family of pens are some of the best writing fountain pens that are sold, and this pen that I purchased from Appelboom is great. If you want a reliable writer you cannot with heft, you cannot beat the Pelikan M1000. And, I love the Broad nib and personalization that Joost made happen. Also, Appelboom has the best prices I have found anywhere.
