Don't put off giving yourself the experience of the Pelikan M1000

I am a daily fountain pen user and commonly write two to five hours per day. I most often use Pelikan Souveran M800s and thought it was the ideal size, but the nib of the M1000 intrigued me. I read reviews and heard about the soft bounce of its response and finally decided to see for myself. I'm delighted. I ordered a fine nib and it can span the width of fine to a thick medium. In my hand, the longer tines give the nib a responsiveness similar to the Omas Paragon (although the brands retain their unique character). I also enjoy the slightly larger diameter at the section as compared to the M800. The flow is deliciously juicy without spilling out on the page. Bottom line: I should have given myself the pleasure of this experience decades ago.
This review is about the Pelikan Souverän M1005 Black/Anthracite Stresemann Fountain Pen.
Firstly, I appreciate the historic aspect linked to this pen, in terms of the German Foreign Minister Mr Gustav Stresemann who made the pin stripe suits of the early 1900's famous. The black stripes is what sets this pen apart from its peers.
The finial has the typical Pelikan feeding a single chick. The clip is a styled Pelikan bill.
The greatest beauty of this pen is the nib; 18 carat gold with beautiful scroll work. Although not a flex nib, it has some spring making writing smooth and easy.
Packaging is plan and simple but functional.
It’s a Great Pen and its size only makes it stand out more. I love the large pens, especiaaly the classic designs. Therefore, the Pelikan Souverän M1000 satisfies all my requirements. This pen is not just huge, it has a gorgeous 18K gold nib that is a work of art in itself. It all looks amazing! Moreover, Pelikan Souverän M1000 not only looks good, it also perform great. The Pen has a rich ink flow, which is why the line thickness is slightly thicker than other pens I use. Thus, I am please to have ordered an extra-fine nib, as I tend to use fine nibs.
Overall, I am very pleased with this pen, which is not only an excellent writing instrument, but an outstanding object that I don't want to part with for a minute.

The M1000 nib is simply the best for this price-range. I learnt from several reviews that this pen has a hard start, so I asked for a nib tune when I placed the order.
So far, the nib and the pen have worked faultless since November last year on a daily use.
Regarding the buying experience I have to say that, despite some small delays, the service offered by Appelboom is top class. Great communication, updates and delivery.
You look at the videos, and want to see the pen not in the video, but in your possession, in your hand. But many of us go back and forth, should I. do I really need it, stop; no point in all this questioning. Buy it, or you;ll just keep watching the videos, until you finally do what you wanted to do from the moment you saw it, heard about it, and desired it.
I received the Pelikan M1000 Black/Green from Appelboom for a price that caused any resistance to be made futile. The NIB, the strikingly beautiful huge nib that stands like the head of a battering ram on those wide shoulders, give it strength, confidence, and an imposing presence. The whole pen is in balance, when holding or just gazing at its subtle beauty. A wonderful writer; it is.
Oh my! As I wrote in my review of the M1005 Stresemann, the nib is just amazing. I thought my medium nib on the Stresemann was great, but the broad nib I picked for this M1000 is even more so. It's broad without being stub, and it's just buttery smooth. Not to mention the softness. It's just perfect.
A Grail pen worthy of the title - simply for that nib alone.

If you're reading this you already know all to know there is about the pen and you already have seen the YouTube videos. I'll not day much, just one thing, the broad nib on the M1000 is the single best nib I have used in 19 years of extensive fountain pen use. It's wet juicy and so soft, just perfect. Just one piece of advice , use a dry ink, best would be Pelikan itself.
If you can afford and are deciding for a Grail pen costing over 500 dollars, this would be my recommendation.
P. S. Thanks to appleboom for having the cheapest Pelikan costs I could find worldwide, and for free shipping from Holland to India in just 5 days, and for testing my nib before dispatching on my request.
Finally got a Pelikan fountainpen again. Bring back memories from Elementary School (however in a different price class). Smooth, soft nib.
Appelboom's service is first class. Even handled over the Internet it feels very personal.
Just one small caution: If shipping to the USA do not include ink. My order was held up in customs for a week. I had to submit a "Toxic Substances Control Act Certification" because of the ink.
