My grail pen ???? The Pilot Custom Urushi Blue is everything I hoped it would be!!! Beautiful blue urushi, perfectly balanced, and that magnificent #30 gold nib is incredibly smooth and expressive. Truly one of the jewels of my collection. ✨????️
Pilot has created a fountain pen with perfect fit and finish. I love the blue Urushi lacquer. The 18k number 30 nib is striking.
Smooth writer with minimal to no feedback. The nib also has a lovely semi flex quality. I wish Pilot created a more sophisticated filling system for a pen at this price range; a minor point considering the overall writing experience.
For someone with large hands, the size of this pen is very comfortable and does not cause as much fatigue as smaller pens. It writes smoothly; the nib is very large and beautiful, plus being soft and bouncy for writing. The pen is beautiful with a classy style, and the Prussian Blue color is gorgeous. Very happy with this pen!
I'm 75. I do not rate myself as a "collector" but over the years I have accumulated a total of 20 fountain pens. This Custom Urushi (research that term if you are not familiar with it) is my most recent purchase. The phrase, "you get what you pay for"
applies. It is top quality. I ordered the MF nib and (for me) it is perfect. Not every supplier that I use had this pen in the Prussian Blue color. Appleboom did. Take advantage of their free nib inspection prior to shipping by a nib expert. You will not be disappointed.
The #30 nib on this Pilot Custom Urushi is, perhaps, the best in the lineup. Great flow, just a little springy to allow for a touch of line variation, and smooth but with some nice feedback. The blue urushi is gorgeous, a bit darker than some photos, and an excellent alternative to the black and red available with this and other models. In addition, this was my first purchase from Appelboom and it was a great experience. Love having the option to have them tune and smooth for me as who hasn't gotten burned with a skipping or slow-starting pen right out of the box? This is already one of my favorites--thanks!
This pen comes in a relatively cheap built box, and I expected it as this is a Pilot pen. However the quality of the pen itself is outstanding. The feeling when writing on a paper is unparalleled.
The biggest nib of Pilot (not Namiki) - no. 30. The nib is wonderful, smooth and soft. The broad is a bit of a stub, I put Iroshizuku Shin Kai and it's juicy enough for shading.
