The EF M400 gold nib (which also fits the M200 series pens) I bought in addition to the F nib which came with my M200 pen. The EF gold nib is a very smooth writer and by no means scratchy. If you prefer to write small(er) letters, then this nib is an excellent choice. After using the EF gold nib for some time, and swapping back to the F steel nib, I find both nibs resulting in a very similar line thickness, but the gold nib is indeed smoother to use and a bit finer than the steel.
Of course, a nib with its qualities has its price.

Regarding this product, I can only be very satisfied: Pelikan makes very decent fountain pens, reliable and pleasant to write with.

Bought this one to supplement the Medium nib on my M400 and kept using only this Fine since. It is just perfect size for daily journal writing. Tiny bit of line variation if you press down harder, but other than that it is solid nib with just perfect wetness and overall great quality and writing performance.
Simple screw-in installation is making Pelikan nib units safest compared to all the friction fit ones that can damage your feed if not handled carefully. Attention to detail is just great. -plating is flawless and nib has been polished to perfection. Writes super smoothly, but no baby bottom!
