The Visconti Homo Sapiens Dark Crystal collection is dedicated to all those looking for a functional and elegant writing instrument, embellished with technical and stylistic features that make it a unique object of its kind.

The new Homo Sapiens Dark Crystal combines the mixture of resin and lava powder from Mount Etna. The black barrel that recalls the slopes of the volcano and the components in dark tones, such as the metal fittings and the 18kt nib, give the pen a unique and contemporary elegance. The mixture of resin and Lava powder makes the pen virtually unbreakable and is treated in such a way as to guarantee a particularly pleasant writing sensation.

It takes many features from the popular Homo Sapiens Dark Age, such as the glossy black metallics and the 18 kt nib finished in ruthenium. The pen is equipped with the famous bayonet lock and the double reservoir power filler, which guarantees a long writing autonomy and protection from accidental ink leaks thanks to the two separate chambers.

Even the smallest components of the pen have received the utmost care and attention to detail. The ink window of the Homo Sapiens Dark Crystal is dark and smokey, perfectly matched with the ring, which is made from smoked transparent resin and showing the name of the collection by dry engraving. The iconic clip is in glossy black brass thanks to a galvanic process and the Visconti logo stands out on the bright ivory background. The logo placed on the pen cap takes up the dark color of the entire writing instrument but can be replaced and customized thanks to our My Pen System.

The Visconti Homo Sapiens Dark Crystal has an 18 kt gold Giotto nib and uses a double reservoir power filling system.

Great pen. I got the broad nib, which writes like a medium PELIKAN or Lamy nib. Very smooth with just a little toothy-ness. The large transparent section serves as an ink “window” so that you know the level of your ink supply. Esthetically, this clear middle section breaks up the line formed by the lava body. But practicality trumps form. Highly recommended. I did not get this through Appelboom but on sale elsewhere. But overall, Appelboom remains the first place I look for fountain pens.

I love buying from Appelboom. I purchased the Visconti HS Dark Crystal with a stub nib. When it came in I noticed an issue with the pen and emailed Joost and he immediately sent me a return label and sent me a replacement pen right away. I received the replacement and it was perfect. The ink I am using is Diamine red dragon. It complements the pen beautifully. The stub nib is a smooth writer and is a joy to write with.

Absolutely beautified with a stealth look. Requested the tune and smooth option and the fine nib has a hint of feedback which I like. My other Visconti nibs are smooth writers and I like the contrast of this nib. Love the feel of the pen in hand and the weight is not too heavy for long writing sessions. Totally hooked on Visconti Homo Sapiens pens. With this pen I also purchased the Visconti 2 pen case in black and the travel ink well to create the dark trifecta. Have yet to use the ink well but will take it along with the Dark Crystal on an upcoming writer’s retreat.

Ordered the Visconti Homo Sapiens Dark Crystal with the stub nib from Appelboom and it arrived promptly, beautifully packaged and carefully shipped and protected. Great service and care from Joost and team - I love the good work and service!

It has a large ink reservoir and warm to hold. The locking threads are finished perfectly.

The thing that stands out for me in the aesthetic of this pen is the clip with the white background for the VISCONTI name. Just sublime!

The stub nib is a wet writer, but I think it demands rather a lot of the feed. SO this results in the feed not being able to keep up perfectly when writing more than half a page.
All in all a very nice Visconti HS! Thanks Joost

I bought this from Appelboom and it showed up sooner than promised. Excellent cross border service!

It writes smoothly, looks great, and feel fantastic in the hand. It is also by far the wettest pen I own. I use it with Visconti Blue.

The pen holds a large quantity of ink, but writes wet, and even though it writes longer than other pens, it is not as much as I expected.

Love it and would recommend the pen as well as Appelboom!

Mine has a fine nib.

This has to be my favorite pen so far. The nib is so unique and has remarkable springiness. The capacity is amazing, and I adore the dual reservoir. The only issues are that the feed isn't exactly centered (which appears to be common after looking at a lot of photos) and the grip section was not permanently attached to the body of the pen. With regard to the grip section, I've found that I prefer to be able to remove it. It makes refilling easier and when I put it back on, it stays firmly in place via friction. Still, it is a flaw with this specific pen that would have required me to pay $25 and send it to the US distributor, who would then send it to Italy, taking months to repair something that doesn't really bother me. Overall, it is super hearty, understated and a joy to write with.
