Sailor 1911 King of Pens Enryu Ebonite GT Naginata Togi Fountain Pen
The Sailor 1911 King of Pens Enryu Ebonite GT Naginata Togi Fountain Pen is an extraordinary limited edition that combines traditional Japanese artistry with Sailor's exceptional fountain pen craftsmanship. Inspired by the masterpiece "Dragon in Clouds (Unryu)" by renowned Japanese Ukiyo-e artist Hiroshige Utagawa (1797–1858), this exclusive writing instrument captures the dramatic beauty and mysterious presence of a dragon descending through the clouds. Crafted from beautifully colored ebonite using the traditional Chirashi (scattering) technique, the Sailor Enryu features a captivating pattern that reflects the movement and power of the legendary creature. Produced in limited quantities and individually engraved with a serial number, each fountain pen is a distinctive collector's piece.
The artistic inspiration behind the Sailor Enryu comes from Hiroshige's remarkable interpretation of a dragon, in which only the head and claws are prominently depicted. This sophisticated approach emphasizes the power of suggestion, allowing the imagination to complete the image. Sailor translates this traditional Japanese aesthetic into a striking ebonite design, using scattered colors and intricate patterns to evoke the dragon's movement through swirling clouds. The naturally warm and comfortable feel of ebonite adds another dimension to the writing experience, while the elegant gold-colored trim complements the pen's rich artistic appearance. With its impressive King of Pens dimensions and carefully balanced construction, the Enryu is both a functional writing instrument and a celebration of Japanese cultural heritage.
At the heart of the Sailor 1911 King of Pens Enryu is Sailor's prestigious 21-karat gold King of Pens Naginata Togi nib, featuring an elegant two-tone finish. This exceptional specialty nib is renowned for its distinctive writing characteristics, allowing the line width to vary depending on the writing angle. A more upright writing position produces finer strokes, while a lower writing angle creates broader, more expressive lines. Available in Medium Fine (MF), Medium (M), and Broad (B), the Naginata Togi nib offers a unique combination of precision, smoothness, and expressive writing possibilities. Presented in an elegant dark brown wooden gift box, the Sailor Enryu is a remarkable choice for collectors and enthusiasts of traditional Japanese craftsmanship.

The Art of Hiroshige Utagawa – Inspiration Behind the Sailor Enryu
Hiroshige Utagawa (1797–1858) was one of Japan's most celebrated Ukiyo-e artists of the late Edo period. Initially known for his depictions of Kabuki actors and Samurai warriors, he later became famous for his poetic landscape compositions, including "The Fifty-Three Stations of the Tokaido" and "One Hundred Famous Views of Edo." His masterpiece "Dragon in Clouds" demonstrates his ability to convey extraordinary power through a restrained composition. The Sailor Enryu pays tribute to this artistic philosophy, transforming the dramatic imagery of the descending dragon into a contemporary luxury fountain pen.
