In 1959, NASA publicly announced the first seven American astronauts to fly for Project Mercury for their exceptional skills, courage and physical endurance.

Among them were Scott Carpenter, Gordon Cooper, John Glenn, Gus Grissom, Wally Schirra, Alan Shepard and Deke Slayton.

Their distinctive silver space suits and white helmets became iconic symbols of America's early attempts at space exploration.

They captured the imagination of the nation and the world as they embarked on historic missions to push the boundaries of human exploration beyond Earth's atmosphere.

Retro51 is proud to partner with the Astronaut Scholarship Foundation to launch the Mercury 7 roller.

To celebrate ASF's 40th anniversary, we're sharing this limited-edition Tornado™, designed after the futuristic spacesuits that captured the public's attention.

Details of the suit are recreated on the body of the pen with acid etching and printing, complete with white accents that mimic the astronaut's helmet and boots.

They are engraved with an LE number (1958 pieces) and finished with the ASF logo on the cap.

The illustration of the Mercury 7 on the packaging is reminiscent of the iconic photo of the astronauts in their suits and is printed against a metallic silver background.

Keep reaching for the stars with the Mercury 7 Astronaut Pen and honor the brave men and women who made these achievements possible.

The Retro 51 Tornado Pen can easily be converted from rollerball to ballpoint by changing the refill. The Retro 51 Tornado pens use a Retro 51 rollerball refill (included) or standard international ballpoint refill.

Retro 51 abides by the motto that "Life is too short to carry an ugly pen!" The company is based in Dallas, Texas, and produces fashionable gift items that combine modern design with vintage quality.
