Review Title: A real gem - no buyer's remorse!

Ever since my trip to Rome in June 24, I wanted to buy an Italian style fountain pen, which could help me remember Italian history and art.


I bought the Opera Gold in blue, with a F-nib, and have not regretted one second, even with a steel nib I bought this with the nib tuning option, which delayed the delivery a few days.

This is a smooth writer, and I have not experienced any skips or hard starts. It lies beautiful and balanced in the hand, and even with my smaller hands is very comfortable to hold and write. It is also equipped with the double reservoir, which brings the ink capacity up to 3,3 ml of ink, Internet says....

The cap is fastened to the pen body with a clever bayonet design. Fast to open, and sits securely. Not yet tested, but it also said to be flight safe - so no air pressure leakages...

Would I buy it again? Yes, no doubt! I place this pen among my top 5 fountain pens, if not among top 3! HIGHLY RECOMMENDED, and so is Appelboom!

The Visconti opera gold has become one of my favourite go to pens, I got mine in a fine nib. I had the nib tuning service and the pen writes perfectly. I would recommend this Visconti pen very much along with the service I received from Appelboom.

The Opera from Visconti is one of those heirloom pens
comes out every few years in slightly different versions
In the same class as the Edson / M1000/ 149 /Viceroy

Well suited in a study , being used to pen a novel, important letter etc

Design
Got a bit of heft to it , more on the medium to large scale.
Construction is as good as it gets with a solid feel to it
Its gorgeous & retains its class once in hand

Price / Quality
Its not cheap ! but will last a lifetime !

Writing experience
I got mine in a broad
Beautiful line width , consistent , no start up or skipping issues
Well balanced for long writing sessions
and despite the heftiness of it , I didn't encounter any writing fatigue

If your looking for a holy grail pen , one that will last you a lifetime and can be passed down to ones children .... this is one of them !

Service at APPELBOOM is 1st class , especially their nib tuning service which ensure a high quality functional nib !
I cannot praise them enough & would highly recommend!

I would recommend seeing one in person as photos do not do it justice.

Though not a negative (more of a personal ... not my flavour ?!)
Cap mechanism is Visconti's hook & turn style
Filling mechanism is vacuum filled
Work very well , just not to my personal preferance
