I recently purchased a 146 with a medium nib from Appelboom. The order took a bit of time due to back order from the manufacturer (not the fault of Appelboom) and I received updates on the status throughout. I live in the US and the pen arrived well packaged and without damage. I will certainly order from Appelboom again.
As expected, the pen performed very well. I paired it with the Montblanc permanent black ink and the nib glides across the paper with slight feedback and produces a wet line on the wider side of M. I typically choose pens for function over style but the 146 delivers on both… it’s not all just branding.
My hands are on the larger side and the 146 fits well uncapped. It’s also weighted appropriately for longer writing sessions.
I did eventually exchange the M for a F through the free Montblanc nib exchange to better suit note taking on lower quality paper.
The pen was perfect for me. Beautiful nib. The best I have used. Even better was the service, delivery speed, choice, and prices at Appelboom. This will be my first choice for future pen purchases. Highly recommended
One can argue of the value of a MB FP but in the end it's up to you. What can be said is that it's a fantastic pen. Loved my 145 with an EF nib and wanted to go bigger. The 146 with an F nib is a pure pleasure to use. It's smooth and can hold a lot of ink for long writing session. Truly worth it in my opinion. It was shipped fast and with great care.
The Montblanc 146P, also called Le Grand Platinum Line is a very reasonable pen for every day life's needs though the price is very high. I like the classic design of the 146P very much. In contrast, the 149 has an appeareance that is not as beautiful as the 149 but it is a bit more ergonomic for long writing sessions. The nib is not perfect ( I possess some other nibs I like a little bit more) but very reliable and performs in most cases and on most papers well.
The Montblanc 146 platinum is in the favorite size and in perfect shape. It is the best size for almost everyone with a perfect weight and a smooth nib. It is really a fantastic fountain pen
It is called the "Masterpiece" for a reason. Classic design, beautifully packaged, outstanding writing experience. The fine nib is comparable to a Japanese (Sailor/Pilot) medium, mine is a bit on the broad side. It is the smoothest nib I own but still has good feedback. The platinum trim is beautiful, but you can't go wrong with the gold or rose gold options either (I have both in the 149). This is an heirloom writing instrument that is an everyday writer.
I only buy pens from Appelboom. Their customer service is unmatched and they clearly take pride in their profession and company. Cost is not an issue when the service is this great but they do have very reasonable prices for their products as well. Absolutely a pleasure doing business with them and I will continue to buy from them in the future.
I am very happy with the Le grand PT 146. The pen is comfortable to hold and the Fine nib is smooth and wet. It has become my daily writer; it is a sheer pleasure to write with!
This was my first purchase from Appelboom and it will not be my last. Appelboom's customer service is outstanding (they answer emails quickly and courteously) and the pen was shipped to me at lightning-speed (it arrived in the USA in two days). All in all, a great buying experience!
