Gorgeous look, all black

This pen looks gorgeous to me all in black, kinda stealth mode. The matte appearance is a plus, highlighting the essential parts of the pen, nib included. It is a clean aesthetic, refined. The size is comfortable in the hand, without feeling too light, even if I like it more unposted, posted maybe too long. This version has a piston to fill in quickly, which makes is easier to deal it, the cap seems to seal well. Still the "usual" (but good) Jowo #6 size nib, this time in black. If you plan to change or choose more nibs, I suggest the "non piston" version: all the same essential, more flexible in the non daily changes. This instead is a dependable daily writer with a gorgeous look.

The matt black surface of the pen gives the impression that it is easily scratched, so keep that in mind when purchasing. The threads of the cap are quite rough and can be felt when opening and closing the pen. The piston does not fill the barrel completely and a half press to remove excess air, only then to draw ink from the bottle while maintaining this state will fix the problem.

If these things do not bother you or you can work around them, then this is a decent writing tool if the appearance of an all black pen appeals to you.

This is a great pen with some very distinctive features and a steel nib that writes very well.

The pen is quite long and so can be used unposted. The section is a good diameter - similar to a Pilot 823 or a Sailor 1911L.

The finish on the cap, barrel and section is a uniform matt black and not quite smooth, but finely textured. All trim is in a glossy black, the nib is black-coated, and the Esterbrook name is simply etched into the cap and not filled in with colour. The overall appearance is paradoxically both understated and striking.

The filling system is an unusual one - a button piston accessed by removing the end cap. A colourless ink window gives a very clear indication of when the pen is running low on ink.

The nib (tuned by Appelboom) writes with a bit of feedback, but is very smooth and has a very good flow (inked with Aurora Black). Mine is a fine, and gives a line width a bit wider than some fines, perhaps in part due to the good ink flow.
