I first saw this pen at the Itoya store at Narita Airport a few years ago, before I was interested in fountain pens. The price was eye-watering and google translate didn't do a great job. I didn't know anything about maki-e, but I used the wi-fi and the flight back to read everything I could, and learned that the correct name was "Night Scene of the Pavilion," It has taken years for me to work up to buying this pen, and it frankly can't be justified for just a pen. But this is not just a pen. It is a work of art that one can incidentally write with. I've seen more elaborate maki-e pens, and some at price points that dwarf this one's, but this remains the most serene design.

thank you joost for placing my order. i can count on appelboom for great service and speedy dispatch - especially important in purchasing a pen like this namiki pavilion. i bought this to complement another namiki and it did not disappoint. i added a nib grind to it, also confident that the nib would come out good. it is always a pleasure to open up the green appelboom wrapping paper!
