Pilot Custom Urushi Red, Fine-Medium Nib

First I want to thank Joost and Anabelle. I requested the “Tune & Smooth” service and the pen writes better than any of my other fountain pens.
The Fine-Medium nib is indeed more fine than a Medium Sailor King of Pen nib. It has a gentle softness (not a flex nib) just makes writing more joyful.
This is my first urushi pen, and I now finally understand why urushi is so much praised by many in the community. There is a rich depth that no camera or monitor can capture 100%, and it is such a pleasure just to hold and feel the pen.
Appelboom provides top tier service, and all my questions are answered in a timely manner. Highly recommend buying from Appelboom. I do not know of any other online pen seller who has a nib expert who can check the nib before shipping to the customer.

Pilot Custom Urushi in Red - Magnifique

Ok - I already own the Namiki Yukari Royale in black Urushi which glides across the page like a dream. I was not prepared for how much the Pilot Custom Urushi is every bit the equal of its Namiki cousin. It writes confidently across the page with just the right amount of ink flow. I can write as fast as I want and this pen just keeps right up with me. I love the look of the pen. The red Urushi is magnificent and I really like the gold highlights. I like larger pens and this one fits well in my hand. Well done Pilot!

Pilot Custom Urushi

Up here in Alaska we rely on tools. Why? Because tools matter. I live by my pens. Each has a niche in which only that pen excels. Pilot makes some of the best pens in the world. Currently the Pilot Custom Urushi and it’s #30 nib rank so high that only my Namiki Emperor’s #50 nib beats it. But Namiki is Pilot’s artisan line. When it comes to the Pilot Urushi it could easily carry the Namiki name. The clip on the Urushi is exactly the same as the clip on my Namiki Emperor and my Pilot Urushi fits comfortably in my Namiki Emperor pen case. It it a full step larger than my Montblanc 149. The cartridge filler makes cleaning a breeze. It holds plenty of ink. This pen is a must have for my collection and I can’t speak highly enough of the little brother Pilot’s Custom 845 Urushi. They are a formidable pair and just the right tools for long winter nights on the pages. Thanks Appelboom — you make a big difference with your service and care all the way there.
