Review Title: A handmade beauty combining tradition & technology

At first glance, the Onoto Scholar fountain pen stands out for its (somewhat conservative) British design, minimalist beauty, and impressive, high-quality finish. It feels comfortable in the hand, and the high-density acrylic (green-grey on the Highlander model) is simply magnificent. The two-tone #7 steel nib is not only beautiful but writes wonderfully (I chose the M point, my favorite). I am not exactly sure what the number "7" refers to, but this nib is undoubtedly narrower than any #6 size German nib (Bock, JoWo, or Schmidt). The Onoto nib does not glide across the paper quite as smoothly as a Pilot nib, but the ink flow is generous and the line is precise. Writing with it is a pleasure. It is not a cheap pen, but the price is more than justified by the quality of its craftsmanship and the legacy of traditional, handmade fountain pens. The Onoto Scholar is, technically speaking, an excellent writing instrument and a valuable addition to any collection, certainly to mine.
