A nice surprise

This is my first Opus 88 and actually my first pen with this construction. I was an experiment for me and I do not regret it. I was worried about the size, because I don't have large hands. Fortunately, I have no problem with it after all, although I understand those who have. I like the simple and clean look of both the pen and the nib.

What could be better? The cap needs over three rotations. I thought it takes forever when I tried unscrew it for the first time. Despite of that, the pen seems to dry rather quickly. It might be the ink, the nib too, who knows?

I ordered the extra fine flex nib. I didn't expect an actual flex nib, so I was not disappointed (but others might be: you were warned). Otherwise, the nib is really nice: I'd tell it is rather just fine than extra fine. And it is very smooth. Especially for an extra fine (cough cough), it is above my expectations after all.

Overall, the whole package is a successful experiment for me.

Opus 88 Jazz is a great pen.

As syringe-filling pens go, you can’t beat the Jazz. It is my favorite design among the Opus 88 models of pens. Like most of the other Opus pens, the Jazz holds a huge amount of ink, making it ideal for traveling to week-long conferences. Because of its dual chamber design, it will not leak due to pressure changes on an airplane. The Jazz Clear is a good demonstrator pen but comes with all of the caveats with owning a clear, plastic pen: once you ink it, it will never be pristine again. You will see visible ink residue on all of the pen parts that make. contact with the ink, including the threads. For this reason, I like the Jazz series because it also has a wide range of differently colored pen bodies. I own several, which are inked with the corresponding ink colors. The standard Jowo #6 nib means that you can easily change factory steel nibs for a custom nib, like the Monty Winnfield Wet Noodle nib, which is the greatest true flex nib I’ve ever used.

reliable writer on pretty much all types of paper

a reliable writer on pretty much all types of paper in fine nib. With Pelikan and Pilot ink it starts quickly and the extremely large ink tank means it doesn't stop for weeks. It is exceptionally beautiful to watch the ink slosh around in the transparent tank. I can only recommend it.

Opus 88 Jazz Clear

Love this pen. I had a challenging start with figuring out the unique filling mechanism. Slow start to a smooth finish. The size of the pen is perfect for me. The 1.5 stub nib lays down ink generously and allows for all kinds of fun.

I like larger pens because I have big hands ans as you get older big pens are more comfortable. Because of this I have now purchased 4 Opus 88 pens. The Jazz has a more circular cap then the Omar, Opera, or Bella. I like the difference.. Writing with the all the Opus 88 pens is a good experience. I don't know if it Opus or Appelbooms but the steel nibs are smooth and wet in both EF and F nibs that I am using..
