Amazing grey

  • Review Add on: 10-10-2024

I've never been a grey ink lover, but Kiri-same changed my mind completely. It's a unique shade of grey with a subtle warm tint, quite different from any other grey inks you can find. The color may seem plain at the first glance, but the chromatography reveals its true complexity: a mixture of cool grey, orange, and pink. I am very happy that I bought this ink, and I'm planning to get a whole bottle.

In My Experience the bluest 'sea blue'

Pilot Irohsizuku was an ink type I wanted to try as Pilot inks have a good reputation and the Iroshizuku line has a lot of beautiful ink saturations available.
Before I went all in on the Fountainpen hobby my go-to blue(black) was Parker Quink in either Blue or BlueBlack, the "Shin-Kai" saturation of Pilot Iroshizuku falls between these Parker saturations. It's darker blue than Parker Blue whilst being truly blue, unlike Parker BlueBlack.

Currently I have "Shin-Kai" paired to a Kaweco Sport Collection "Mellow Blue" with M-nib and it pairs like a dream, performance on Rhodia and Kokuyo papers is great without any issues.

Pilot Iroshizuku is (from my point of the hobby) a more expensive type of ink, that said the price is reasonable for the saturation accuracy you get from this line of Pilot inks.

The Pilot Iroshizuki ink also doesn't show through Rhodia papers as where Parker Quink (BlueBlack) does.

Tsutsuji - My Favorite Iroshizuku Ink

  • Review Add on: 10-01-2023
  • Average Rating: (5)

I bought a sample of the ink (from another retailer) and inked my transparent blue TWSBI Eco 1.1 stub. Even before writing, I couldn’t stop staring at my pen. The bright pink ink in the clear barrel contrasted beautifully with the pen’s transparent blue cap and end cap. Then I wrote and fell in love with the ink! The ink is so bright (almost neon pink) and smooth. I’ve also inked my Platinum Preppy (F). The ink is so vibrant and saturated, it should work in nibs of all widths (including extra fine). In heavy swatches there is a slight gold sheen. Tsutsuji is my favorite Iroshizuku ink. I love the 15mL bottle size. Appelboom is one of the few (or only?) US retailer that offers the 15mL bottle for individual sale. I love Tsutsuji so much that I may consider getting the larger 50mL bottle when I finish the 15mL bottle (hopefully Pilot doesn’t discontinue this color).

Kosumosu - Very Pretty Delicate Pink

  • Review Add on: 10-01-2023
  • Average Rating: (5)

Kosumosu is such a pretty pink ink! It’s light and delicate but still readable even in a fine nib (such as a Pilot Petit). In terms of saturation/vibrancy, it’s between Hana-Ikada (lighter) and Tsutsuji (much brighter). Price is on the high side but the ink (and the rest of the Pilot Iroshizuku line) is very high quality. The 15mL bottle is the perfect size. It’s great that Appelboom offers this size in addition to the much larger 50mL bottle.
