Leonardo Officina Italiana has added a new pen to its range: the Momento Magico. It is a fountain pen with a piston filling system designed and produced in their own workshops. The pen body is characterized by a transparent ink window that measures 10 mm, which lets you see the ink level at any given time. Not that you will run out of ink quickly, as the barrel has a massive 1.5 ml. capacity.

Another element that characterizes the Momento Magico is the possibility to completely disassemble the pen. This lets you clean your pen more easily if necessary. For this specific purpose Leonardo has created a new piston tool (sold separately).

The cap of the Momento Magico is characterized by the central band perforated with a detail of the decorations belonging to the period known in the history of art as ‘geometric art’. It refers to the production of decorations of Greek civilization between 900 and 700 BC, which takes its name from term traditionally used for ceramics, production of the same period.

The pen is available with a steel nib, a gold nib or a gold flex nib. The gold nibs have an ebonite feed. The nibs have received and extra-strong lamination treatment, which makes them suitable for any type of ink.

mooie pen, lekker dik, daar houd ik wel van. Ik heb de bold penpunt erbij besteld, deze geeft een fijne volle inktstreep, waar je nog wel mooi mee kunt schrijven. Klassieke uitstraling.

Piston - zuiging: je moet een paar keer deze doen, voordat het inktreservoir redelijk gevuld is. Dus punt helemaal in de inkt !

I got the Momento Magico Anima Nera in matte black finish with RT trim. It's a beautiful pen and pretty lightweight. The fit and finish have high precision and it writes flawlessly from the beginning. The tuning that Appelboom did was great. I find that the nibs on Leonardo pens tend to more narrow in line width than most European brands and this is also the case for the Anima Nera. The steel nib is fairly rigid as expected. The ink volume is 1.5 mL, I think and will allow you to write all day. A great, stealthy choice for an every-day-carry pen!

An absolutely delightful writer that exceeded my expectations. The piston mechanism is smooth with no slack, and the styling and finish is precisely what I was hoping for. I love the matte finish as there's no fingerprints to blemish the look as well as being easy to securely hold with a light grip.

Writing wise, the steel EF nib is now my favourite in my collection being exceptionally smooth and at just the perfect wetness. The body is relatively lightweight and there's no hot spots that dig into my tripod grip. Extended writing sessions are a joy with this pen.

Overall I'm extremely happy with this pen.

I have wanted a Leonardo pen for a long time. This is a pen that exceeds my budget, but indeed it is worth saving for. It is a very elegant pen, with a solid build quality, and it fits my hand perfectly. The nib writes perfectly with no adjustments necessary. It is a wonderful writing tool. The fine #6 fine nib wrote more like an extra fine, but that doesn't fatter for me,. It' a very smooth nib. I have used it for only black ink so far, but this pen,, and this nib have made me like writing with black more than before. Black suits this pen wonderfully. This is without doubt my favorite pen, the best pen I have experienced, and I will save for more pens of this kind. The price is very competitive for Italian pens of this standard., gives high value for money invested. I will really recommend this pen. This is a pen that is well worth saving for.

Clean elegant lines. Excellent fit and function. It works out of the box. Wet smooth nib. Good fill with a smooth piston. Comfortable in the hand. The ink window with a metal band on each end should be on every piston filler. After three days of writing with this pen, I am enjoying it very much. One turn to remove the cap. My first purchase from both Appelboom and Leonardo. I don't want to sound over the top but the product and the service were excellent.

So I got this pen and I really like it.

Design: beautiful matte black is eternally classy

Filling: massive inf capacity and smooth piston - I love

Nib: this is where I have an issue *disclaimer* I am using noodler’s x-feather because work paper is aweful and I need a permanent ink.

I have had 2 problems with the nib
1) frequent hard starts : I blame the dry X-Feather but have yet to try a better behaved ink (Waterman). It does get going with pressure but it’s not as smooth as I wanted.
2) nib leakage and inkcident... the screw-in nib is awesome, less it leaks into the cap, as happened to me. I just removed it and put on silicon grease.

OVERALL then, 4/5.

It’s great looking
Immense ink capacity
Easy to replace and repare nib (silicon grease)
But frequent hard starts with a dry ink.

I purchased this pen as my birthday gift to myself after having other three other Leonardos. The weight is a little lighter than the others, which I like to write longer. The design is so beautiful that caught my eye immediately. The EF nib writes smoothly, without faults and the piston operates well. Just the perfect gift. Buying for Appelboom is always a pleasure.

I bought this pen with the extra fine elastic nib, The nib writes smoothly with nice line variation and creates wet lines, so you have to wait a little bit until the ink dries up. The piston is easy going and holds enough ink for several pages. A nice bonus is the opportunity to disassemble the pen for a nice cleanup from the nib to the inside of the piston.
