Bleu de Minuit is the darkest colour available apart from Noir Abyssal ink. It is a deep, dark blue, evoking a starry night. This celestial colour is emblematic of the Jacques Herbin Collection.

Without overload or artifice, with a sober and elegant brightness, Jacques Herbin Essentielles inks echo the shades of watercolor colors. They are the accomplices of any amateur or connoisseur of the arts of pen and graphic arts, artists and travelers. The high quality ink made in France comes in a glass bottle of 50ml.

Established in Paris in 1670 —when King Louis XIV was 32 years old— the Maison Herbin initially specialised in the sealing wax, fine stationery and ink trade, and imported shellac from India.

In 1798 the Maison changed tack and put its faith in the future: whilst continuing to produce wax and engage in the paper and color (pigments) trade, it launched production of its own writing ink on the initiative of Jacques Herbin, member of the fourth generation.

I’ve been on a quest to find the perfect blue ink: not too dark as to be indistinguishable from black inks, but not too light such that it does not look serious enough in formal correspondences. This Herbin de Minuit is that ink. It is a beautiful blue and it behaves incredibly well. Flow is great and there is no feathering in good paper. This ink is the perfect companion to the Herbin Perle Noire black ink, which I think is the best black ink on the market.

What a beautifully designed bottle, Made of glass, square shaped with an internal taper (so one can get the ink to the last drop). Nicely snug cap.
The ink is a wonderful shade of dark classic blue, it flows well on multiple nibs I own, does not stain pens and leaves a delightful sheen and shading on TR paper.
Appelboom packs it so well in a nice recyclable or reusable box with prompt shipping and delivery yet at competitive prices.

I was unable to find this particular colour elsewhere and I have been looking for it in the UK for quite a while. Bleu de Minuit is a deep blue, between a navy and a royal blue that I call Deep Royal It is a lovely shade that could not be mistaken for a blue/black but quite definitely a luxurious dark blue. Van Gogh's Starry Night comes to mind - at least for me.
The bottle is beautifully solid, yet elegant. I love it!

This is a great blue black ink. The ink is well-behaved. It is wet, lubricated, quick dry and no feathering on bad paper. Unlike many other blue-black inks, the ink has more blue colour than black, thus it appears as dark-blue without any purple sheen rather than blue black. Comparing to other blue-black inks I have, this ink has similar colour to Sailor Seiboku except this one is less sheen making it very suitable for business or formal writing in my opinion. I highly recommend this ink to anyone who is looking for a high quality dark-blue ink.
