The Diplomat Excellence A pens are one of Diplomat's premium writing instruments of stately presence and generous proportions.

The Diplomat Excellence A series and its emblematic line now feature two new models with intensely modern and original colors, the Excellence A Brass and Iron. The Oxyd Brass model, which is slightly oxidized, sports a champagne-like color that subtly reflects light. The Excellence A Oxyd Iron, which is even more oxidized than the Brass model, has a charcoal gray color. The polishing lines, which are visible on the instruments of both series, add to their rich texture and their overall brightness.

The Excellence A Rome fountain pens have a steel nib (several sizes) or you can choose a 14 kt gold bicolor nib (several sizes). The pen uses cartridges or a converter.

I recently purchased both a Diplomat A2 Oxyd Iron Fountain pen and Diplomat A2 Venetia Platin Mat CT Fountain pen. Both pens have stainless medium nibs. Both pens look and feel fantastic in the hand. From a purely aesthetic design point of view, I cannot fault this pen. However, I was disappointed with two key elements of the Diplomat A2 Oxyd Iron Fountain pen in particular. Firstly the nib on the Oxyd Iron Fountain pen has distinctly more feedback than the nib on the Venetia Platin Mat CT Fountain pen. Secondly posting the cap on the Oxyd Iron Fountain pen is not nearly as positive as posting the cap on the Venetia Platin Mat CT Fountain pen. It should be noted that the Diplomat A2 Venetia Platin Mat CT Fountain pen arrived with the pen itself plastic wrapped with a Diplomate product information tag under the clip, whereas the Diplomat A2 Oxyd Iron Fountain pen did not. This possibly indicates to me that this was a demonstrator pen or a returned product from another customer.

Diplomat is a bit underrated I think. I should very much get more attention as their pens are quite excellent. The Excellence line is very well made, very comfortable and their steel nibs are absolutely superb. The writing experience is top notch.

The Oxyd Iron finish is absolutely gorgeous and unique.

Very recommended.
