The Alfred Bernhard Nobel Collection is the thirteenth release in the prestigious David Oscarson™ series of Limited Edition writing instruments. This remarkable collection honors the profound legacy of Alfred Nobel—the Swedish inventor, scientist, entrepreneur, and founder of the Nobel Prizes. Crafted with symbolic detail and rich historical reference, each piece pays homage to the duality of Nobel’s life: the power of invention and the pursuit of peace.
Each of the five color variations is limited to only 63 pieces, representing the 63 years of Nobel’s extraordinary life. Available in both fountain pen and rollerball styles, this exquisite collection merges Old World craftsmanship with meaningful design elements inspired by Nobel’s complex legacy.
A Pen of Powerful Contrasts: Destruction and Peace
On the barrel, an exploding stick of dynamite with a burning fuse symbolizes Nobel’s revolutionary invention and its impact on technology and warfare. The dates 1833–1896, marking Nobel’s life, are engraved at its base. The barrel also features a blasting cap motif, inscribed in Swedish with the words Varning (Warning), Tändhattar (Blasting Caps), and Fara (Danger)—a nod to his chemical innovations.
In striking contrast, the cap of the pen features a serene pattern of white doves, the international symbol of peace. Encircling the crown are the Three Crowns of Sweden, a national emblem most famously seen atop Stockholm’s Stadshuset (City Hall), where Nobel Prize laureates dine with the Swedish royal family every December 10th.
Master Craftsmanship: Guilloché and Hard Enamel
Each Alfred Nobel pen is handcrafted from .925 Sterling Silver and Gold Vermeil, featuring four levels of guilloché engraving on the barrel that depict a stylized explosive blast. The dynamic transition from white to yellow, orange, and red enamel visually represents the explosion’s intensity. These colors are kiln-fired together without metal separations—a highly complex process that showcases the pen’s technical artistry.
Using traditional techniques, each pen is adorned with hard enamel, a glass-based material created by grinding glass, water, and metal oxides by hand. After repeated kiln firings at temperatures above 1,000°F, the enamel is polished to perfection, revealing a rich, velvety finish.
Available Color Variations:
