The Pilot Custom 823 is for me a kind of Grail pen. I already owned the Pilot 823 with the medium nib, by far the best writing experience in my entire collection. I took a chance and bought it with a fine nib. As with all my Pilot pens, it's just perfect out of the box. A true fine nib, wet and smooth. The dream. A truly magnificent workhorse pen with an immensely large ink capacity. And as always, great service from Appelboom!
Wonderfull pen as always with Pilot. Fit & finish is stellar, I love vacuum fillers, and the nib is excellent. Beware, japanese nibs tend to be thinner than their western counterparts, but I love the scalpel-like feeling, yet not too scratchy or too dry, of a good japanese fine nib.

I had long wanted this pen, and I’m not disappointed, it’s a large pen, but sits well in my hand, posted or not. The vacuum filler holds a lot of ink - more than any other pen I own. The amber design is striking. It writes very well indeed.

Even though you probably can't call it a "cheap" pen, I think this is still great value for money. Classic design, lots of ink capacity, and a fantastic (and big!) Pilot gold nib.
I bought mine with a medium nib.A delightful, smooth experience.For a Japanese nib, it's close to a European one, if not the same, at least in my case.

I really love the pen. I bought a fine nib and it writes super smooth. The size and weight of the pen is excellent. In addition, I really like the filling mechanism. The pen can hold an enormous amount of ink.
I heard all the good stuff about this pen but was put off by the "classical" look. Finally bit the bullet and for sure is one of the best pens in my collection!
I just love this pen, look, weight, smoothness, feel, and size. With looking extravagant yet elegant.
