Overall, this pen is absolutely lovely. The size is nice and light, and the pattern on the body is understated and classy. In addition, the piston mechanism is absolutely lovely to use and the price on this pen is great. The two things to take note of is:

1). Pelikan's inconsistency with nib grades strikes again. My M nib writes much closer to a B. This doesn't annoy me that much, but, for potential buyers, be aware of this.

2). Be aware of potential baby's bottom. My pen came with a bit of baby's bottom on the nib. It's not a horrific case, but it's enough to impact my use of the pen. Thankfully, Appelboom Pens will adjust the nib before it goes out the door, so be sure to ask that they check for baby's bottom. Worst comes to worst, you could always buy a new Pelikan replacement nib (which could also handle the issue above), send it to a nibmeister, or (with extreme caution) get rid of the baby's bottom yourself.

Overall, an excellent pen from an excellent vendor.

I opted for the complimentary nib tuning option and highly recommend it. This pen is gorgeous and writes well every time- smooth right out of the box, and just a joy to write with. And since Appelboom has some of the best prices I've found anywhere, I know I received great value for money with this purchase.

I have the Pelikan M405 with an EF nib and it very quickly became a firm favourite. The nib is such a pleasure to use. Smooth with a slight springiness - whenever I use it I totally engage with it. The grey stripe adds real class to this edition. I also have the M805 but the M405 model has the edge because, being slightly smaller, I find it a more comfortable pen to use for long periods and it’s a pen I always carry with me.

Small fountain pens are more appealing to me. They are easier to write and carry. I chose the Pelikan M405 as my first midrange fountain pen because of its elegant design and writes very well, with very little to no feedback.

M405 is elegantly lean. It can even replace pocket square as accessory.

From afar, you would have a difficult time differentiating the Pelikan Souveran M405 from an M205. They share the same physical dimensions. With the extra money you pay for the M405, you get a 14C-750 gold nib and three additional rings around the cap (1 additional) and barrel (2 additional). For me, the M405 fits nicely in my hand, though is maybe a little bit short. With the cap posted, the length is very nice and the pen is comfortable enough to write with for long durations in this configuration.

Beautiful and classic Pelikan design. Lightweight, which makes it great for long writing sessions. Smooth, springy, wet writing nib. Fine nib writes more like a Medium, which is exactly what I wanted; definitely go a size down with Pelikan gold nib pens. Love the black and anthracite stripes, just a lovely design. Uncaps quickly, which is convenient. The M400 size is also good for those with smaller hands.

Love this pen! Great customer service from Appelboom; I will definitely be buying more pens from them soon!

This is such a nice little pen. While significantly smaller that the M805, it is a great daily carry pen, and in very unique black and anthracite colors. My only caution: the nib while supposedly an <EF>, writes more like a <M>, but it's very smooth. Love it!
