The Wancher Sekai fountain pen is born from the aspiration to be connected and peaceful like the World Tree in many mythologies. This collection embraces the idea of connecting the world with the arts.
The base materials of the Wancher Sekai fountain pen have been carefully selected from natural precious woods from all over the world such as Ebony and Sandalwood. It is then crafted with traditional arts such as Urushi, Maki-e or decorated with high-quality Japanese Sterling Silver clip.
Aizu Urushi
The Wancher Sekai Aizu Urushi fountain pen is made in Fukushima, Japan using the Aizu Urushi technique. Aizu Urushi is one of the oldest and most famous lacquerware techniques in Japan. Originated from Aizu - a region of heavy snowfalls, Aizu Urushi has a history of over 9000 years.
Every single Wancher Sekai Aizu Urushi fountain pen is hand-painted with Suki-Urushi (translucent) by skillful craftsmen with many years of experience.
The raw urushi has a light amber color but it becomes more transparent when time passes by. The reason why our artisans use transparent urushi is that it allows us to see the beautiful wood surface underneath. With many layers of urushi applied, after a long period of 6 months, 1 year or more, your fountain pen will get more glossy and unveil the beautiful texture of natural wood. (Please see the close-up picture to see this more clearly).
Wabi-Sabi
In Japanese aesthetics, Wabi-sabi (侘寂) refers to the acceptance of imperfection or also called "wisdom in natural simplicity". This what you will find in our Sekai Urushi fountain pen. The natural imperfection of Urushi and wood might appear on the body of fountain pen as minor roughness or uneven spots. With the appreciation of natural materials, our artisans intended not to remove this "flawed beauty" but instead spent many months on meticulous coating to achieve the most shiny and elegant art that can last for life.
And because of this Wabi-sabi concept, the Sekai Urushi fountain pen is different from one to another so we call it a one-of-a-kind fountain pen.
Each Wancher fountain pen comes with a wooden giftbox which includes a Japanese Kimono pen wrap, an international standard converter to use bottled ink and some standard ink cartridges.
The Wancher Sekai Aizu uses a standard international cartridge or converter, and writes with a smooth #6 Jowo stainless steel nib..
Wancher, from the Land of the Rising Sun has a long history of writing and fountain pens. Each Wancher fountain pen embodies the essence of art and are designed and created for the best writing experience. The Wancher pen company began in the 90s where Taizo Okagaki was conducting "Desert Greening" research for ODA in Egypt. He wanted a pen that would hold up in the harsh conditions and Wancher was born. Each Wancher product is authentic, unique and created with traditional values. Each piece is created by artisans and craftsmen and the result is the highest precision writing instruments.
