The Ondoro has quickly become a go-to pen in my collection. It is comfortable in the hand, writes splendidly, and has a certain understated elegance. If I was not making the effort to rotate through my growing collection, this one would be my main pen.
Everything I could say about the nib has already been said: Faber-Castell steel nibs are truly in a class all their own. I have both a medium and a broad and can safely say they live up to the hype.
For comfort, the section might seem odd at first glance, but I find a standard grip fits it naturally and comfortably. Part of the pad of my thumb ends up resting on one of the hexagonal facets of the body, but that helps keep the nib aligned if anything. Posting the pen does backweight it a bit; I personally find that relaxing my grip helps offset the slight shift in weight.
All in all, this is a great pen from Faber-Castell and I would recommend it.
I purchased this pen over the other Ondoro models because it had a wooden body and I don't regret it. It's very well balanced and comfortable in the hand. The contrast between the metal parts and body make it wonderful to look at. It writes very smooth and has one of the best steel nibs I've ever used.
I was looking for a good gift for a graduation, the person is finishing his PhD studies. Seven months ago I got a fountain pen made of wood which looks quite nice. I was looking to something equally interesting and I knew that Faber-Castell had similar items in their line. I knew from a Faber Castell Loom that the nibs by them were quite well tuned up and incredible smooth. Therefore, while looking at the line, I took a look at the Ondoro Smoked... I knew this was the perfect gift given that after the PhD... you tend to write quite a loot at Industry or Academia... and when you write having a nice fountain pen is a must because it allows the ideas to flow...
