Review Title: Geweldige pen, een genot om mee te schrijven

Ik wilde altijd al een Aurora 88 vulpen hebben, en twee weken geleden heb ik eindelijk de knoop doorgehakt. Ik heb met opzet de chrome trim genomen, omdat ik die erg mooi vind staan bij de zwarte pen (en chroom is Meestal erg slijtvast).

De pen ligt precies goed in de hand voor mij, en de penpunt geeft de "feedback" waarom Aurora bekend staat. Glad (ik heb een Medium) maar je voelt de penpunt over het papier gaan. Tot nu toe heb ik de 88 gebruikt met Waterman Serenity Blue inkt. Een mooie rustige kleur, en een inkt die het transparante inktvenster niet zal verkleuren (mijn enige zorg met zuigervullers en demonstrators).

Het is natuurlijk best een dure pen (ik weet het, alles is relatief), maar hij is voor mij het geld zeker waard. Ik neem hem nog steeds met een glimlach in de hand.

Al met al ben ik uiterst tevreden, zowel over de pen als over de service van Appelboom!

The Aurora 88 is a classic, restrained and elegant pen with nothing superfluous. It is very well made and finished, and is beautifully functional.

The piston filler works smoothly, and the colourless ink window lets you see easily how much ink remains. The nib unit screws in and can be removed for easy cleaning of the pen if needed.

The long grip section tapers from 12mm near the cap threads to 10mm at the narrowest, and is comfortable to hold.

When capped, the pen is a little shorter than some regular sized pens. Uncapped, however, this is a substantial 130mm pen that works well unposted.

I ordered a broad nib re-ground as a cursive italic. While Aurora offers stub and italic nibs, these are more expensive than the round-tipped nibs, and for about the same price I opted for Appelboom's nib customisation service to get a nib ground to my liking.
The custom nib writes about 1mm wide down strokes and 0.4mm wide cross strokes.

This is a great, almost pocket size, pen, with an amazing "Goccia" nib. Nice color, pleasant to write with. Nice box from Aurora. Highly recommended.

What's to love? Smooth fine nib with a bit of feedback. Large ink capacity. Generous grip section. Large, yet lightweight. It's really an exceptional fountain pen for long writing sessions.

What's not to like? It might be my nib only, but the pen likes to be angled a certain way, and if the angle made between the paper and the tip of the nib widens or narrows beyond a certain range, no ink will be forthcoming and skipping is all you will get. My extra-fine Graf von Faber-Castell pernambuco fountain pen will write no matter how you hold it, but this may not be the norm for all pens.

Finally, Appelboom must be congratulated on their thoughtful packaging and efficient shipping. The pen arrived tastefully gift-wrapped, and it took barely 4 days for the order to reach me here in the US.

Das ist das erste Mal, dass ich einen Füller zweimal kaufe (mit verschiedener Federstärke), schlicht weil er aussergewöhnlich gut ist. Die M-Feder ist perfekt für edle Papiere, die etwas weniger Tinte aufsaugen.

This is to me the perfect pen. Not too big or too small. Flawless in every direction. The design is timeless. The gold nib is a fountain of joy. I plan to use it forever.
