I had ordered a F nib from Appelboom, for my Dilpomat Excellence A2, for which I already had a EF nib.
The new nib worked perfectly from the beginning, giving a perfect alternative to the EF nib and I can switch them easily. Plus, fast and efficent service from Appelmboom as always!

Back in 2019, I bought a full Excellence B pen (can't find this on the web site now) with a steel F nib + an additional 14K F nib unit.

The steel nib gets a perfect five stars: it's very smooth and among my favourite nibs. Initially, the pen felt a little heavy, esp. when posted. Seem to have gotten used to it now. Don't notice the weight any more. But this is something to keep in mind if you have small hands or don't like heavy pens.

The gold nib was beautiful, but not a very good writer: not as smooth as the steel nib, and the flow was also not as uniform. It's perfectly satisfactory now after some inexpert flossing and micromeshing, but I've docked one star (may be even two) for the initial experience.

Had Appelboom offered a Tune and Smooth option on Diplomat pens/nib units when I bought this, I would have unhesitatingly chosen that option. It has become my default option given my experience, esp. with a Pelikan M600 EF. Many thanks to the Appelboom team!
