Amethyste De L'Oural (Ural Mountain Amethyst) is the first ink in the J. Herbin 1798 Inks Collection. 1798 commemorates a special year in the history of Herbin, and a turning point in the history of France. Amethyste is a deep rich purple in the velvety hue of a rare gemstone. A silver mist provides a lustrous shimmering effect. The name Amethyste De L'Oural suggests the color of royalty. This ancient gemstone from the gates of Asia was prized for its calming, meditative and lucid dreaming qualities.

J. Herbin is the oldest name in pen inks in the world. M. Herbin created “The Jewel of Inks” in his shop on the Rue des Fosses Saint-Germain in Paris in 1700.
