I ordered this pen with a broad nib and it is smooth as glass and very wet. A work of art to look at, although I could not remove the inner ring that holds the threads in place like on other older carenes l’ve seen. This is needed to realign the end with the nib and may annoy some.

I ordered this pen and delayed its shipment in favour of waiting for Annabelle to be available to check the nib. She was away for well deserved time off. After using the pen for 6 weeks, I can say it’s excellent. First, it’s beautiful. Second, the click cap makes this pen a perfect daily writer. (I’m not thrilled removing a screw cap on an expensive pen 20 times a day). It is a poor cousin to an Edson and it would be fantastic if Waterman returned the Edson to production. Nonetheless, this fountain pen performs and is wonderful to hold. It is on the narrower side size wise but not too narrow. And the converter does not hold a lot of ink. Still it is fast becoming my go-to pen. Thank you Waterman and Appelboom.

I had ordered the EF nib. Price was just right after using the discount offered for International fountain pen day. Pros: Made out of brass and it feels solid. It is well balanced, I like the quick snap cap, the nib is gorgeous and smooth. The shape is that of a sailboat hull and the color reminds me the deep blue water colors of the Aegean. Perfect match. I like extra fine nibs and to my surprise it is as fine as those of Japanese brands – unusual for a European make. Very smooth on all types of paper and did not have any hard starts as of yet. I have other pens that are much more expensive that this one but I believe that it will be my everyday writer. Cons: only issue is that the vent hole is on the bottom of the grip section and depending on how one holds the pen, some ink may get on the side of the middle finger (assuming three finger grip with the middle finger under). Highly recommend this pen and Appelboom!!!

The Waterman Carene L’essence Du Bleu CT fountain pen is such a classic design with that amazing wave pattern cap. I choose EF nib and it write smoothly with just the right feedback. Overall I am glad that I get this version and will be enjoy writing with it for many years.

This is a beautful pen. It took a while to get it in the stub nib version I wanted but it was worth it. If you like the standard Carene you will love this version.

I ordered a medium nib. It is very smooth with a great flow of ink. Not to wet, not to dry.

I am so happy with my Waterman Carene with a broad nib! I could not find a broad nib anywhere else, but Appelboom carries it!

This is my first Waterman pen and I couldn’t be happier with it: I have admired the Carene model for many years but none of the standard or special editions really caught me until Waterman released the “Essence of Blue” edition. The blue is amazing in person, the material appears quite dark in low light but then reveals a vibrant ultramarine in direct sunlight. The wave-like engraving on the cap is simply stunning… it feels so soft to the touch and seems to ripple as it catches the light. The inlaid nib is incredible, I have an EF and it writes very smoothly with a nice wet line to bring out all the shading in the ink. Appelboom’s customer service is impeccable, this was my first order and I was so pleased with my experience from start to finish.

The new blue and silver combination of carene somewhat resembles the blue whale. I went for the extra fine nib and it had more feedback than fine, while producing a slightly thinner line. By the way it came with a converter.
