Description

The Visconti Van Gogh ”Starry Night” Fountain pen is made of natural vegetal midnight blue resin with a kaleidoscope of light blue, yellow, orange and green variations, is inspired on Vincent Van Gogh’s famous painting, “Starry Night”, 1889, oil on canvas. Considered his magnum opus, this work depicts his view outside his sanitarium room window of the village of Saint-Remy de Provence, France.

The name of the painting and artist are delicately engraved around the pen’s ring, and each pen is packed into a unique gift box that is complemented with a faithfully reproduced canvas of the painting. The pen itself utilizes Visconti’s eighteen-faceted design, the many edges enhancing the vivid colors of the pen.

The Visconti fountain pen has a stainless steel nib, available in several line widths, and uses standard international cartridges or the supplied converter. The Van Gogh fountain pen is also available with a large nib (model A10), which bears the name of the painter.

The collection can be personalized using the well-known Visconti patent- My Pen System – with the instant application of the initials, the zodiac sign or the semi-precious stone preferred by the fortunate future owner of a Visconti pen. The My Pen System applications can be found in our webstore.

The name Visconti has been for the past twenty years a synonym for writing instruments of extraordinary beauty, historically and technologically studied. The fountain pens, rollers and ballpoint pens by Visconti make up a wide range of high quality instruments with a strong identification.

From a series of 12 pens in total, this is a well designed & beautiful pen. Rather slick nib section but manageable to write with due to the faceted barrel design. However, the nib that came with the pen (‘F’) was hard starting and skipped. Visconti must due better to maintain its quality assurance in nibs offered.

I was contacted right after my purchase saying that my broad nib wasn’t in stock at the moment, but they ordered it right away. I received the pen quick and it writes beautifully. I was missing the converter that was supposed to come; therefore, I messaged them and they sent me one at no cost. Great and fast customer service.

This has quickly become by favorite "fine" point nib pen within my accumulation of fine pens. It’s wonderful to use in a small notebook, where the need to write smaller than usual comes to play. I also love the magnetic cap, it clicks in place without effort.

  4. Stephen Ferketich

I love the way this pen feels in my hand and the way it writes. It’s a beautiful pen. Despite other reviews critical about the writing smoothness of this pen, it is very smooth and stays wet with a medium nib, an excellent writer. I am located in the USA and Appelboom provided timely updates on shipping and status.. The pen was quickly and expeditiously shipped, Excellent service from Appelboom for an exceptional writing instrument.

The fact that the nib on the Van Gogh is one of the finest steel nibs out there is only overshadowed by how gorgeous the pen looks; just put it under the sunlight and gaze at the beautiful acrylic.

It took me a while before ordering this pen. First of all, because Visconti has a history of nib quality problems. Secondly, because the previous pen I bought from Joost was a Pineider La Dolce Vita Lapis Lazuli, writing like a dream and making me a huge fan of the brand. Lastly, because ALL of the Visconti Van Gogh pens are beautiful. As I am a great admirer of Vincent’s paintings, especially of those with his favourite colours cobalt blue and gold, I had to go for the “Starry Night” edition, M-nib steel. The nib writes perfectly well, just as nice as the Visconti Michelangelo I have, also M-nib. It seems that these painter series with steel nibs have none or less of the known issues. Anyway, if you buy your pen from Appelboom, you are on safe ground, as service is not an idle word there.
Joost, if you could use your influence and persuade Visconti to make a Johannes Vermeer series, I am immediately in for the “girl with the pearl earring” edition!!!

Impressed from the box packaging ,Beautiful design, looks good, but there is no instruction manual for maintenance or accessories that are recommended to be used together.
which I think the brand will pay more attention to the customer.

  10. Petter Sørensen

This pen is one of my favourite pens, due to the overall impression of the pen. The pen looks good, and has a nice balance, thickness and length for my hand. The magnetic hold of the cap functions flawless, and the cap mounts well on top of the pen and stays there and improves the balance. I enjoy the nib most of all. It has a constant flow with any pressure. The (F) nib has a softness, or bounciness that makes it a joy to write with. It even flexes a bit with a variation in the lines, which makes it perfect for me. I also have a (M) nib, but this has not the same qualities as described.
This is over all a very god pen in the mid-range price category.
    Best regards,
    Petter Sørensen

This is a very handsome pen! The faceted body makes it feel secure in my hand and it’s also comfortable to write with for extended periods of time. It feels comfortable both capped and uncapped. The large fine nib is very smooth on paper and the ink flows without problems at all my writing speeds.

I strongly recommend that anyone interested in this pen buy it with one of the large nibs. I did and it came in a beautiful box with the titled artwork on the front and a bottle of ink I couldn’t find anywhere else. The nib also had Van Gogh engraved along one side, different from what’s in the picture with the smaller nib. A built in magnetic cap so that you don’t have to unscrew it, is also a great feature that I enjoy. A great pen for a brilliant artist.
