Description
Visconti conceived the Homo Sapiens fountain pen for real writers, for those to whom the pen continues to represent a travelling mate, a daily friend to share with the same civilization that writing contributed to create.
The material in this pen is as antique as the world: lava from the Etna volcano. Visconti lava is: Virtually unbreakable, it has a high degree of resilience. Flameproof, Visconti lava has a resistance to heat of over 100°C. Slightly hygroscopic, allowing to absorb hand sweat during use. The Homo Sapiens Lava Color is made of a combination of this high valued material and colored resin made following a secret formula. The process of catalysing the lava material with coloured resin is very complex but the final look of the writing instrument is unique and makes the collection stand out from other Homo Sapiens editions. This new edition also has an anti-stain treatment that protects the pen and prevents ink from depositing on the pen during the refilling phase.
Unlike the original Homo Sapiens Lava collection, the Lava Color features a magnetic lock closing system which makes opening and closing it effortless. The Lava Color is the perfect addition to the Homo Sapiens collection, an absolute must-have for colour and nature lovers.
The fountain pen has an in-house made 14 ct gold nib. The charging high vacuum power filler is made of titanium, the only material resistant to ink aggression.

The name Visconti has been for the past twenty years a synonym for writing instruments of extraordinary beauty, historically and technologically studied. The fountain pens, rollers and ballpoint pens by Visconti make up a wide range of high quality instruments with a strong identification.
Tony Vernier –
This is a superb looking pen and weighty in the hand. I chose the red colour. I also chose Appelboom’s nib customization of tuning and smoothing the nib. I highly recommend this service as the nib on my pen was impeccable. My pen writes flawlessly. I was very satisfied with Appelboom’s entire service.

I have always liked the Visconti range of fountains pens (over and above the MBs). This is my fourth Visconti from Appelboom – whose service for someone living overseas is excellent. And I have the received the same comments from friends whom I have recommended Appelboom to.
I wanted the Terrra Di Siena as I use a lot of red ink in my work and wanted the barrel to match the colour of the ink (as much as possible).
Having used the Visconti Homo Sapiens range, I must say that the nib (all EF) I am using is smooth and is fine enough for constant daily writing – my first Visconti has lasted me more than two years of constant use without any reduction in writing quality.
The weight and size of the pen is just nice for male hands, although the ladies may not find it as feminine. The ‘lava’ material is cool to the touch and does not seem to ‘heat up’ with prolonged writing and is very comfortable.
All in all, I am more than satisfied with the product and service..
