Description
With this range that contains 18 tones of writing inks for fountain pens and quills, Rohrer & Klingner continues an old tradition of ink production. Apart from classical tones (including two iron gall inks), several new colours are available, that have been developed for the primary purpose of calligraphy. On a traditional basis, the inks are produced with inter alia modern raw materials.
The inks of Rohrer & Klingner feature high-class, brilliant colourants, specially treated water and minimal amounts of additives. This well-balanced composition causes the optimal cappiliarity of the inks and the accordingly good writing conduct.
On most paper the ink adheres well and, according to its capillarity, quick. Each of the inks are treated with high quality, pleasant dyes, that feature both a high brilliance and a well-balanced intensity. The colours of the iron gall inks intensifies when it oxidises on the air; Hence, writings with those inks are considered permanent, the historical term being “archivally safe”.
The Rohrer & Klingner ink comes in glass ink bottles of 50ml.
The German based Rohrer & Klingner was founded in 1907 by Johann Adolf Rohrer junior and his partner Felix Arthur Klingner. Nowadays, already the fifth generation of employees maintains the firm’s long tradition of manufacturing ink. Following well established recipes, their products are made by hand, combining primarily natural binding materials with the respective colorants.

So far, I have bottles of Verdura, Solferino and Smaraggrun. All three are excellent inks. They all behave extremely well, are gentle on pens and look amazing on paper. The ink colors are well saturated, the texture is rich and are comparable to all the best inks out there..

I ordered the scabiosa ink and I like it very much. The color is muted and pleasant to the eyes even writing and reading long paragraphs. And it is waterproof. Thanks appelboom. Will purchase again.

Hi. I purchased 3 inks from Appelboom. The Salix is excellent in that its 99pc waterproof but is a bit too dark for my liking. The Verdigris is actually a blue black but a unique colour. The Cassia is a bright vibrant purple not suitable for daily use but a fun colour to have. Overall R and K inks provide a variety which is vast and ever expanding. Go for it!

I use the ink with a dip nib. I‘m very fond of this ink. She works very well on every paper, even the cheapest one. The ink allows very fine hairlines. No feathering or bleeding.
The color is very dark, almost black with a blue shine

The ink is slightly drier compare to Iroshizuku inks for example, so it balances well for fountain pens with rather wet/gushing nibs. The water resistance is excellent.
I found it fascinating to watch the colour changes after it dries and oxidised on paper.

Well behaved blue-black ink that has excellent water resistance. I love how it darkens over time. This ink does not sheen but has great shading property. It has relatively dry flow comparing to Iroshizuku inks, which makes a good balance for gusher nibs.

Beatifully shading ink, well behaved with good lubrication. A classic and versatile color. Can be a bit difficult to read in smaller handwritings with finer nibs but great on medium or broader nibs.

I like darker blues and this is easy to use on inexpensive paper.
Since it is iron gall ink, it is recommended that you take care of your fountain pen.

I ordered Salix twice and Scabiosa twice as well because it is very nice and waterproof. Shading is very good with these 2.. and it is way cheaper from Appelboom than here in Singapore. Thanks Appelboom

I have tested a variety of inks and subsequently found that the Rohrer and Klingner Blau permanent, from Leipzig, Germany, suits me perfectly well. This ink has good flow-characteristics, which eliminates “skipping” i.e. sudden stops in the ink-flow and prevents the pens ink-channels from clogging. It is a lubricating and wet ink yielding a smooth feeling when writing. The Rohrer and Klingner Blau permanent also resists water to a certain degree, however not fully and does not disappear completely if the paper should be a bit wet. It is also easy to clean out of the pen, rinsing it by water. Furthermore, from my subjective view, the Rohrer and Klingner Blau permanent gives a saturated pretty blue colour. My general impression is that this ink has a number of advantages, is relatively cheap despite it’s eminent characteristics and fits well for daily writing using different paper qualities.

Degelijke ijzer-galnoteninkt met een prachtige kleur. De inkt is zo goed als watervast, en toch gaat het reinigen van je pen gemakkelijk. Een van mijn favoriete inkten!

Great ink but was expecting more color shifting since it is iron gall based. It darkens less than the Salix in this same range. Dries fairly quickly, the purple is not overly saturated, and holds up well under watercolors or alcohol markers.

Excellent value for the quantity, and as always excellent service on the part of Appelboom. They did everything to make sure my order got out to me in time for a business trip. I ordered the color Leipziger Schwartz, an excellent highly saturated green-black, with an almost velvety appearance on cream-colored paper. This is one of my favorite blacks to use in professional settings. It’s definitely black, but with a tinge of something unique.

Immediately after writing, the black has a greenish tint, but it gradually settles into a slightly bluish black.

I purchased three colors and I like the colors a lot. I will try more colors in coming days. Great product with nice presentation

Green is my favourite color and i own many green inks, but altgoldgrün is my absolute favourite. Highly recommend this ink!

I was looking for a blue-black ink and Leipisician Black was the perfect choice. The ink is very dark and looks almost black, but if you look closely you can tell that it is blue. It also shades at moments where the blue really shows through. The blue is very pretty and slightly teal leaning. The ink also seems very wet and works better in dryer nibs. In a Kaweco Supra fine nib, it caused bleed through on Kokuyo Thin paper. However, in a TWSBI Eco fine nib, there was no bleed through on the Thin paper. So this ink may work better in some pens as opposed to others.

Used this ink many times. Inexpensive and works in many pens
