Description

The original #3776 series was designed by the late writing expert Haruo Umeda, known as “Mr. Fountain Pen,” along with the design team at Platinum Pen Company. Their aim was simple- to create the ideal fountain pen. The #3776 was made available to the public beginning in 1978. #3776 expresses the height in meters of Mt. Fuji, the highest and most beautiful peak in Japan.

The innovative cap contains a unique “Slip & Seal” mechanism that prevents ink from drying out in the pen. Meanwhile, a newly redesigned nib and feed regulate the ink flow. Founded in 1919, Platinum Pens is now nearing a full century of achievement. The #3776 “Century” celebrates this approaching anniversary and continues Platinum Pens’ tradition of technological innovation. With Platinum Pens, the pleasure of writing and the use of fine writing instruments will always be evolving.

The fountain pen has a 14kt gold nib and uses the Platinum converter or ink cartridges, but with the special Ink Cartridge Adapter it is also possible to use the Standard International ink cartridges.

In 1919, Shunichi Nakata, started his fountain pen business that would later be known as “Platinum Fountain Pen Co.”. The Japanese brand is closely related to the legendary Nakaya fountain pen brand, where some of the finest fountain pens in the world are created. This expertise also goes into Platinum’s own line of fine writing instruments.

Timeless design for a classic Japanese pen, beautiful broad 14K gold nib with a bit of spring, the gold trim and the blue resin go together incredibly well and it will last you a lifetime.

  2. Daniel Barboza

This pen looks gorgeous. It never hard starts and the size and weight are perfect for using it posted. The nib, though (I have a SF nib), between platinum’s factory feedback and the nib softness, demands a very light hand to be used with acceptable feedback. It can be tiresome.

Purchase the gold proprietary converter, you’ll have an attractive, dependable, good writing pen.

The Platinum 3776 Chartres Blue with gold combination is very attractive indeed. I asked for a medium with stub grinding. The Pen writes beautifully with really good (too good?) flow and writes wet. No hard starts with this pen. I appreciate the usual Appelboom service with fast delivery and excellent packing. Thanks Appelboom!

I’ve been writing with this pen since I’ve received it last week and I’m already a fan. It’s my first Platinum and it was a great decision. I just love the way it writes, It does not come with a converter, which was a bit disappointing. Once again, the appelboom service was 5*.

This is a beautiful pen as a whole, one which you will stare at and feel it’s so pretty. It writes smoothly and with the SF nib it’s also a little springy. Bear in mind it’s only a soft nib, not a flex nib, you will damage it if you press too hard on it. I bought the converter along with the pen because I am not a big fan of cartridges and refilling but the pen did come with a cartridge ready for use. Love this #3776 Century range, shall get the other colours also.

This is a great everyday pen plus a good value given the high quality 14k nib. I love the color.

When I received my “PLATINUM #3776 CENTURY CHARTRES BLUE” I was a bit on shock: the color is a very dark blue, different of the blue from “les vitraux bleus de la Cathédrale de Chartres” dont il est inspiré. And there was another surprise: the top of the nib is flat ! (not “rounded” als other fountain pens), with the fact that the “music” nib is in three part… it’s a bit strange 🙂
I put ink (Pelikan Edelstein” inside the pen, took a Rhodia paper, and … woawww!!! the nib is gliding on the paper like a charm…
This pen is original and a very nice writer. Despite the relative rigidity of the nib, It offers a lot of line variations which is delightfull …
Finaly, it’s a very good surprise for me. 🙂

    Happy New Year !

    Olivier

Very excited to receive my ‘1st’ Platinum pen & was not disappointed. The translucent rich dark blue gives the pen a ‘Royal Seal’ effect. The look of Lapis Lazuli gives it healing powers and this happens when you write solidly and with a smooth skating shoe. Elegant shaped nib which has eating fork tine usefulness critical ‘nudge’ to purchase is the low price vs quality. Puuurect!!

I really love the Century #3776. The pen is really smooth and writes well. I have another one in F and I love it.

I got the Broad nib, it’s slightly stiffer than a medium Platinum preppy, and almost the same line width. I wasn’t expecting the stiffness but I liked it a lot, it enables me to write faster.
I knew that the pen is not opaque, and with the converter in it, I can see the level of ink when raised against light, it’s not very transparent that it looks cheap, it actually looks quite elegant, it bothered me a little that people complimented its looks more than my other favourite pens (LAMY 2000 and Sailor Pro Gear). It’s pretty well balanced and slightly heavier than it looks (at least for me) which makes it feel much better than expected. I’d recommend it to anyone looking for a pen to use daily and also looks good on occasions!

The pen of classic shape – very convenient to use and beautiful to look at. However the real hit is the nib – 14K gold music nib is marvelous! Writing with this pen is a real pleasure.
