The original #3776 series was designed by the late writing expert Haruo Umeda, known as “Mr. Fountain Pen,” along with the design team at Platinum Pen Company. Their aim was simple- to create the ideal fountain pen. The #3776 was made available to the public beginning in 1978. #3776 expresses the height in meters of Mt. Fuji, the highest and most beautiful peak in Japan.
The innovative cap contains a unique “Slip & Seal” mechanism that prevents ink from drying out in the pen. Meanwhile, a newly redesigned nib and feed regulate the ink flow. Founded in 1919, Platinum Pens is now nearing a full century of achievement. The #3776 “Century” celebrates this approaching anniversary and continues Platinum Pens’ tradition of technological innovation. With Platinum Pens, the pleasure of writing and the use of fine writing instruments will always be evolving.
The fountain pen has a 14kt gold nib and uses the Platinum converter or ink cartridges, but with the special Ink Cartridge Adapter it is also possible to use the Standard International ink cartridges.
In 1919, Shunichi Nakata, started his fountain pen business that would later be known as “Platinum Fountain Pen Co.”. The Japanese brand is closely related to the legendary Nakaya fountain pen brand, where some of the finest fountain pens in the world are created. This expertise also goes into Platinum’s own line of fine writing instruments.

(+)Soft-fine nib is outstanding , its a big smooth feedbacky nib with great lane variation from EF to BB, although if flexed too much the feed might be insufficient and lane will skip.
(-)Cartridge adapter is not included ,
(-)Nib is very big ,and have no fins , and the breather hole is too high , so in order to fill the pen you would need to submerge grip section .Best choice is to fill the converter separately with syringe .
(-)Gold coloured trim discolours from wear .body catches scratches ,too much gold colour , the pen is slightly oversized imo.

I am in possession of an EF nib for this lovely #3776 and I have to admit I enjoy the feedback I get when I write on paper. It certainly has a sweet spot when writing which feels smooth and just glides on paper but there’s also (most definitely) a scratchy side to it that either gets you or it doesn’t. For me it is does it’s job!

Dit is mijn eerste vulpen met een 14K pen punt. Ik heb deze in Medium gekocht omdat ik toch hou van een iets vollere lijn op het papier; mijn Platinum Procyon (F) heeft een hele dunne lijn.
Ik gebruik de 3776 al enige tijd als mij dagelijkse schrijven en het is een absoluut fijne pen om mee te schrijven, geen hapering te bekennen; een lichte hoorbare terugkoppeling als je schrijft. Verder is het een lichte pen die uitermate geschikt is voor langer schrijven.
Het ontwerp is functioneel maar iets aan de saaie kant.
Kortom een uitstekende aankoop.

I have been searching for this Platinum music nib pen in a few stores and found most of them are out of stock. Appellboom had it. Very happy with its service. The pen is smooth and most enjoyable to write with. I am still experimenting with it in writing different styles of writing.

This is an absolute stunner Japanese marvel. Repeat purchase of different colour. 14 K nib at this price ( a fairly large nib ) is marvellous and adds character to the pen. Being a Japanese nib, it’s M is equivalent to European F. A collector’s delight. Thanks to Appelboom for tuning my nib.

Ik heb een aantal weken geleden met Fountain Pen Day deze Platinum 3776 gekocht met de Music nib. De pen heeft een mooie donkerrode kleur. Toen ik Appelboom mailde over de vraag of er een converter bij de pen zat, kreeg ik snel van Joost Appelboom een mail terug dat er normaal geen convertor bij zit maar dat hij er gratis een zal leveren bij de door mij gekochte pen. Dat noem ik service! Hartelijk dank Appelboom en ga zo door!
