Description

The original #3776 series was designed by the late writing expert Haruo Umeda, known as “Mr. Fountain Pen,” along with the design team at Platinum Pen Company. Their aim was simple- to create the ideal fountain pen. The #3776 was made available to the public beginning in 1978. #3776 expresses the height in meters of Mt. Fuji, the highest and most beautiful peak in Japan.

The innovative cap contains a unique “Slip & Seal” mechanism that prevents ink from drying out in the pen. Meanwhile, a newly redesigned nib and feed regulate the ink flow. Founded in 1919, Platinum Pens is now nearing a full century of achievement. The #3776 “Century” celebrates this approaching anniversary and continues Platinum Pens’ tradition of technological innovation. With Platinum Pens, the pleasure of writing and the use of fine writing instruments will always be evolving.

The fountain pen has a 14kt gold nib and uses the Platinum converter or ink cartridges, but with the special Ink Cartridge Adapter it is also possible to use the Standard International ink cartridges.

In 1919, Shunichi Nakata, started his fountain pen business that would later be known as “Platinum Fountain Pen Co.”. The Japanese brand is closely related to the legendary Nakaya fountain pen brand, where some of the finest fountain pens in the world are created. This expertise also goes into Platinum’s own line of fine writing instruments.

I again amazed how platinum makes such fine pens.. the pen writes smoothly regardless of the type of ink used. I bought the gold fin nib and it is my go to pen. I would recommend this pen.

It’s a solid purchase, the pen is made of good quality materials, the nib is smooth with a little feedback which is always pleasant (not scratchy at all). I have a music nib and it is performing great. I have many Montblanc and I would really recommend this as a more affordable alternative, with no doubt.

This pen is a very pleasant surprise.
I was hoping to use this pen right out of the box but it didn’t quite agree :

The nib was so stiff and the slit so tight that ink failed to arrive to the paper.
After a few hours on this nib : it writes like a dream ! Awesome pen, highly recommended.

Note that it doesn’t come with a converter, nor ink cartridges, nor an adapter.

This is my first Platinum 3776, and of course I went for the “mythical” Music nib. It writes like a very very smooth, and very forgiving, stub nib. The amount of feedback (tiny, but enough to feel the paper) is just perfect. I personally like very wet writers, and would have preferred a slightly wetter flow, but that can be adjusted. The design is classic, as it should be, and the quality and finishing is perfect. Given the Covid-related distribution issues, I had to wait for a couple of months for it to arrive from factory, but it was worth the wait.

I received the platinum #3776 just before Christmas. I went for the Music nib as it one if the few that I know of in normal offer.
The pen is the definition of traditional design.

The built of the pen is precise and detailed with no hint of corners cut. The threads are tight and the overall feel is nice. It is not a heavy pen so would not be imposing to any writer. If I had one criticism it might be the plastic used for the body can feel a touch cheap but it would not deter me from purchasing it again.

Writing is beautifully smooth with just the right amount of feedback. It puts down a heavy flow of ink which is just right for the width if the nib.

I chose the music nib with half of me thinking that it would be destined for special use and not as a daily writer, this is not the case and while the line is wide it is quite suitable for daily writing.

The pen came supplied with a converter fitted and an ink cartridge in the box. The box itself is a nice quality plastic box.

Excellent japanese pen for a fine writing – just a bit small uncapped – only overclassed by Pilot custom 823/845

I have now been using this pen for some time, i bought it some months ago. It´s a nice pen. The nib is rather stiff, maybe a little bit scratchy even. But in spite of this – or – because of this it is a very good writer. I have a pen which was a little bit more expensive (80-100 euro more), a nice pen with a gold nib like the platinum. That pen´s nib feels much smoother and very nice to write with, but i can´t say that pen is a better writer. So maybe a stiff nib is my thing?
