Brand: Opus 88

The Opus 88 Koloro fountain pen is truly unique writing instrument. Featuring a sharp alternating material scheme of ebonite and resin, this pen’s design stands on its own. The name Koloro means color in Esperanto, and colourful is what this pen is. The Opus 88 Koloro is equipped with eyedropper filling system and center bar to regulate the ink flow. This is usually only available on high end eyedropper fountain pens. Having the translucent resin portions of the pen allows you to see both your current ink level and your nib while capped. The Opus 88 Koloro features chrome details and a stainless steel #5 JoWo nib. The pen can be filled with the included eyedropper and holds 2ml of ink.

Masterfully engineered to serve both form and function, Opus 88 pens transcend mere communication to reflect the artistry that is the written word. For over two decades, founder Michael Hsu has personally and painstakingly crafted each pen to exacting standards, selectively building his Opus 88 label for discering clientele. Those who recognize the power and beauty of an exquisite writing instrument appreciate his work. Since 1988, as an OEM/ODM supplier, Michael has earned a reputaion for excellence.

This pen is fantastic value, looks great, and as an eyedropper has huge ink capacity. The nib felt smooth out of the box, and writes wet, so it deserves an interesting ink selection.

Have to mention the excellent service from Appelboom too. They were friendly and quick to respond, swapping out a fine nib for a medium when I had a post-order change of mind (after I realised that these no.5 nibs would run a point finer than the no.6 in my TWSBI 580). Highly recommend both the pen and Appelboom!

My first Opus 88 and first pen with this kind of eyedropper valve, and an instant favorite. The ink capacity is enormous, and the flow has been great without opening the valve for a few quick notes, and with valve open it keeps up for pages and pages. The Fine nib has the smallest note of feedback and is on the wet side while still keeping a nice crisp line. Absolutely love it.

I really like the appearance and feel of this pen. It’s not too big or too small. The shut-off valve lets me take it to the mountains without leaking. I got it with the stub nib which has some feedback, but gives nice line variation.

The Koloro is a nicely made, well proportioned pen with excellent materials quality and great fit & finish. The styling is unique and in my opinion rather attractive.
An interchangeable nib with a standardized base is a nice touch, as is the fact that the cap can be posted while the ink valve is open.
Writing manners are just fine, with good ink flow, a smooth nib and just enough bounce to be more expressive than a fully rigid unit.
My one criticism, is that the ink shutoff valve has a rubber face, which means that it compresses a fair amount when closing and thus requires an extra half turn or so of the shutoff knob in order to be in the “open” position.

    Dankon, Opus 88!

I’ve had my koloro for a while now. It wrote smoothly out of the box, and it looks great and feels good in my hands.
The best is the huge ink capacity! I’ve easily fit a 2ml sample in there, and probably 2.5 would still fit. The O-ring and shut-off mechanism make sure the ink doesn’t dry out when not in use, or blurb ink due to pressure changes, making it a perfect travel pen

The barrel of the beige-blue is a bit on the dark side, so you’ll have to hold the pen against a light source to check the remaining ink level. The design and colors of this particular pen would work well in business settings, as it isn’t too flashy. I’ve grown to love this pen so much that I bought the other colors as well. You just can’t go wrong with these!

I really like this pen! It’s a wet nib but perfectly secured by this eyedropper-system.
A fountainpen for everyday, but special.
