Montegrappa’s Elmo 01 is a reminder of how often the designs we consider classics today were simply necessities of their time. In the early 1920s, rampant demand and scarce materials required pen makers to be inventive, so for Montegrappa’s first Technical Director, it was an opportunity to break from tradition.
The Elmo 01 taps the maverick spirit of Heinrich ‘Elmo’ Helm. Active until 1928, his bold experiments with shape and colour helped make the Montegrappa pens a mainstay of Italian universities and workplaces. A century later, his stripped-back ideas reflect the essential spirit of Italian every day carry and Montegrappa Vintage Class.
