Description
The Montblanc Meisterstück 149 Gold-coated collection is a design that writes history. The Meisterstück collection was introduced in 1924, with the name meaning “Masterpiece”, and it has become a symbol for high quality luxury.
The cap and barrel of the Montblanc Meisterstück GT 149 Calligraphy Curved Nib Fountain Pen are crafted in black precious resin, featuring the iconic white Montblanc emblem inlaid in the cap top. This edition of the famous fountain pen is crowned with the innovative curved nib, which is hand-crafted in Au750/18K solid gold and garnished with three delicate parallel lines; a symbol inspired by calligraphy movements.
The curved nib is ground at an angle of approximately 45 degrees, which allows a variety of writing styles and line widths, depending on the angle and the orientation at which the writing instrument is held. Comparable to an architect nib, the curved nib writes a thinner line (width M) when moved vertically, and a wider line (width BB) when moved horizontally
A curved nib is particularly suited for Chinese, Japanese and Korean calligraphy, for sketching and drawing designs, but also to add extra flair to regular handwriting. Allowing a form of self-expression and creativity, the art of calligraphy requires the versatility of a nib that allows for a variety of line widths, shapes and styles to enhance the beauty of handwriting.

My very first order from Appelboom, great service. This is my second 149, I bought the older one with the flex nib a year ago. Very beautiful nib.

I do not need to say much about the 149, but in this form with the curved nib is so much fun. There are so many line variations depending on angle and also reverse. Such an enjoyable nib with the usual MB quality.

This one is special. Normal writing is almost impossible, but that’s not the point. Write huge. Sign cards. Just doodle. It is amazing how much fun this nib is. You can turn it upside down for an extra-fine line if you really want to write in your planner, but again that is not the point of this, well, point.
I believe the nib is sometimes also called an ‘architect’ nib. Vertical strokes are a good medium, but horizontal strokes are paintbrush territory.
Sign birthday cards with it. You will not regret it.
Appelboom’s impeccable delivery service, even to an island outside the single market, was reliable as always.

For the flexible nib, I also had to buy this curved one. The pen as expected is amazing. I am also grateful for appleboom’s faultless service.

I already have the 149 calligraphy nib but after trying this one I discovered a new experience with the amazing line variations depending on the angle of the nib while writing . It’s a must have.

I never had a calligraphy pen before but I now see its value and usefulness. By changing the position of the calligraphy nib and the pressure applied, you can create ink flows that are thin to thick. I love that this calligraphy nib is housed in the famous Meisterstuck 149 FP and would recommend this to any serious collector and calligrapher.

I have been waiting for this pen for over a year. Especially with scarcity of the flex nib 149. I finally received it. I was not particularly impressed with the packaging, which is simple like the regular 149. I was, however, impressed by the comparable pricing. I have spent a good 3 weeks using and getting accustomed to the nib. I find it very lovely, especially coming from persian calligraphy background, where we rely on changing angle of the pen to achieve line variation. The reverse writing is a huge bonus [gives EF width]. I did an unboxing and overview on YouTube. Here I will attach the short format. Overall I give this pen 8.5/10. It is an amazing pen. Yet, it is not for everyone, and takes some getting used to. Also, I am not sure if it is a good daily driver. It has not knocked off 149 flex from my daily use throne. But I carry this pen everyday too.

With this pen you can vary horizontal line width from about fine to about double/triple broad, depending on the angle with the paper (the wider end is the smoothest). The vertical line width varies from fine to medium. The overall result is similar to an architect grind when the pen is used at about 45°. Reverse writing is very usable, providing an extra fine width.
Corteous and helpful communication was provided by Appelboom, along with very nice packaging and fast shipping.

This nib is interesting as writing difference line depends on the angle.
Compare with other same type of nib, the control is easier but it might not as vary as the Japanese naginata togi nib.
But the brand and nib in this price, which. is nothing you can complaint with.
