Description

Amethyste De L’Oural (Ural Mountain Amethyst) is the first ink in the J. Herbin 1798 Inks Collection. 1798 commemorates a special year in the history of Herbin, and a turning point in the history of France. Amethyste is a deep rich purple in the velvety hue of a rare gemstone. A silver mist provides a lustrous shimmering effect. The name Amethyste De L’Oural suggests the color of royalty. This ancient gemstone from the gates of Asia was prized for its calming, meditative and lucid dreaming qualities.

J. Herbin is the oldest name in pen inks in the world. M. Herbin created “The Jewel of Inks” in his shop on the Rue des Fosses Saint-Germain in Paris in 1700.

As a french person, I’ve known J. Herbin for a long time but this aniversary editions of shimmer ink are some of the best I have ever used. The purple in Améthyste de l’Oural is beautifully made,
It has a really nice shading and the glitter is so thin that it spread very nicely with the ink flow and does not clog the feed. Depending on the paper you use, you get a different feel every time. I used it with a BB nib and it does not feather nor does it takes too long to dry.

This is a beautiful ink. The bottle initially sent arrived cracked and had to be discarded. Appelbaum sent me a fresh bottle by FedEx which was most appreciated. Great service!

If you like the now gone Lamy Dark Lilac colour, this is basically the same shade but with glitter! And who doesn’t like glitter? I love it!

Very exquisite color, which varies from pale lilac to rich dark purple dependings on nib.
Not very good for business letters, because of sparkles, but you have to not forget to shake the jar, or there will be not sparkles =)
