In 1900 the Zeppelin airship began its first test flight under the aeronautical leadership of Earl von Zeppelin. Based on this event and the design of the airship Diplomat introduces the Aero pen to the market. The Diplomat Aero is characterized by groove-like depressions on the barrel and cap which lends the pen next to its classic form a modern spirit. The Diplomat Aero is made of anodized aluminum and is especially designed ergonomically. The clip harmonises well with the shape of the Diplomat Aero.
The Diplomat Aero fountain pen has a steel (optional 14ct gold) nib in Fine, Medium and Broad. The pen use a ink cartridge or a converter.

I bought this pen blindly going only by all the super positive online reviews. I also had the Tune & Smooth service done that Appelboom offers with this pen and I must say I’m flabbergasted. I own pens that are high end and cost 5-6 times the amount that this Aero cost but in the writing experience this one probably is just as good or maybe even better. It feels very well in your hand and it writes so smooth that you feel like it almost writes by itself! I will for sure expand my collection with several colors of the Diplomat Aero. The Aero in the shiny “factory finish” rocks! The pen’s unique design conjures von Zeppelin and has a terrific nib, which wrote flawlessly. It is hard to believe that a steel nib can write so smoothly out of the box. This is a great value fountain pen, with an excellent steel nib and larger capacity converter. Highly recommended.

The Aero fountain pen is fantastic, Fine steel nib performs better than a most gold nibs especially when you have it checked and tuned by Annabelle. Must also mention that the service provided by Appelboom is excellent and in my opinion second to none.

Incredible pen, precise and perfect in all ways. Beautifully made, there is no error in the manufacturing. It’s a hefty pen, but very well balanced. The snap-cap is worthy of mention as well, initially I was a bit set aback by a premium pen having a snap-cap, but it’s a precise fit and feels very good to both cap and post. The raw factory finish curiously exhibits a very slight rainbow sheen on the hills of the grooves, perhaps due to the machining marks. Nib is well-ground (by the folk at Appelom), writes very smooth for a steel nib.

This makes my fourth Diplomat Aero (1 med, 2 fine) that I have in my collection and I couldn’t pass the opportunity to add the factory finish in EF. I enjoy this pens look, its balance in my hand, and it is comfortable for long writing sessions. The EF nib is smooth for an EF, but not as smooth as the F and M. Diplomat makes a great pen.

The Diplomat Aero pens are unique pens in their zeppelin-like design. Most of the models are made of aluminum (the Flame model is made of stainless steel and weighs twice as much) and the shape of the barrel makes it a very comfortable pen to use. I own two of these pens in the raw aluminum finish, one with a medium and one with a broad steel nib. Both are superb, rigid writers. Ink flow is good but not super wet. Finally, the cap closing mechanism is one of the most satisfying on the market. Appelboom prices for these pens are among the lowest. I highly recommend this pen as a daily writer!
