For this latest excursion into nostalgist nirvana, Montegrappa’s craftsmen have turned to premium German ebonite to infuse a classic silhouette with masculine grunt. Like celluloid (an in-house staple), ebonite is steeped in vintage mystique. Invented by the Goodyear brothers in 1851, this vulcanised hard rubber compound featured extensively in the early 20th century Elmo pens that were produced in Montegrappa’s Venetian factory.
Keen-eyed pen aficionados will recognize the three mottled ebonite colors from Montegrappa’s Mia Carissima (2019): Brick Red, Blackcurrant and Petroleum. This limited edition comprises only fifty numbered examples of each, and writers can select from a line-up of gold nibs with ebonite feeds. Available in 18k – F, M & Broad nibs as well as Extra Fine FLEX & Fine FLEX in 14k.
This pen uses Montegrappa’s patented 32-tooth click-wheel piston-fill mechanism.
Italy's first pen producer, Montegrappa, began manufacturing pens in 1912 in its factory in Bassano del Grappa in Italy. Utilizing natural celluloid and precious metals,Montegrappa combines traditional methods such as die-casting with more recent innovations as low-relief engraving to form their precious art objects. Whether Montegrappa use colors reminiscent of the master painters or ornamentation suggestive of Baroque palaces, the Italian heritage and romance is infused into each product.
