The Montegrappa Aviator Red Baron is the ultimate pilot’s pen, that’s been flipped into sport mode, with an eye-catching new design.

Popularly known as the Red Baron, Manfred Freiherr von Richthofen was a WWI squadron commander, whose dominance of the skies left his name etched in history and popular culture. With his formidable record in aerial battles, the Red Baron and his distinctive red triplane symbolise a spirit of war from a bygone era.

To evoke the trappings of aircraft in general, the Montegrappa Aviator pen is made entirely of aluminium. Its profile is rounded, to reflect the laws of aerodynamics, inherent in every external component found in aircraft. The pen’s look therefore conveys the dynamism of flight, its curved pen barrel blending into a sharpened cap, conceived as a whole to resemble both aircraft and rockets.

Adorning the entire body of the Montegrappa Aviator pen is specific design details in the language of the aviation industry. Montegrappa’s artisans have finished the pen with “stitching”-style rows of “planks” seemingly secured with minuscule rivet heads, accompanied by fuel tank apertures, and the “Remove before Flight” and “No Step” commands, etched along the pen in perfect relief. The signature clip bears a complex, technical design shape reminiscent of landing gear struts, with the classic Montegrappa rotating sphere re-imagined as a knurled ferrule.

The Montegrappa Aviator fountain pen has a stainless steel nib and uses the standard international cartridge/converter filling mechanism.

The pen comes in a flight-goggle style travel case.

Italy's first pen producer, Montegrappa, began manufacturing pens in 1912 in its factory in Bassano del Grappa in Italy. Utilizing natural celluloid and precious metals, Montegrappa combines traditional methods such as die-casting with more recent innovations as low-relief engraving to form their precious art objects.
